Operating under the company name VK Howden, we offer brokerage placement and advisory services to retail insurance brokers, reinsurance brokers, or ceding companies for Directors and Officers Liability Products, FIPI, BBB, and Misc. Professional Liability products. The Company has a strong regional focus on Latin America, which includes Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico.
Some of the services the company offers to its clients include:
- D&O & PI program creation and structuring
- Placement negotiation with insurers and reinsurers located in Latin America, the U.S., and Europe
- Policy and Coverage design
- Coverage explanations and presentations to current or prospective Original Insureds
- Organization of conference calls and road shows for Original Insureds to present their risk to Reinsurers
- Assist Original Insured in preparing its renewal information and presentation to reinsurers

Operating under the trade name Vernon Kelly - VK Underwriters, the Company Underwrites Directors and Officers Liability Products on behalf of several prominent insurers and reinsurers and manages a growing portfolio of world-wide Directors and Officers Liability accounts. The Company has a strong regional focus on Latin America, which includes Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico.
Capacity
The company has automatic capacity of $5 million USD for Directors and Officers Liability including Employment Practices Liability and Securities Exposure. In select cases the company may offer up to $10 million USD.
Our supporting reinsurers are admitted in all of the markets we operate and include Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, AM Best rated A, Everest Reinsurance Company, AM Best rated A+, and Hannover Reinsurance Company, AM Best rated A.
Claims Handling
Our lead reinsurer, Liberty Mutual, lead the claims handling effort, with claims cooperation with both Everest Re and Hannover Re. All three organizations have developed a premier level of claims service in professional and Directors’ and Officers’ Liability. Our philosophy is to work closely with our lead reinsurers and their internal and external legal advisers and adjusters. Both groups have extensive international relationships for dealing with suits in various jurisdictions and have consistently provided high levels of quality service to their insureds and reinsureds. VK Underwriters has been careful in selecting these partners for their claims expertise, including:
- Extensive internal experience handling specialty lines claims
- Timely acknowledgment of policyholder, ceding company and broker needs
- Prompt response to issues concerning new and existing claims
- Close cooperation with underwriters
- Selection of highly qualified external professionals, as required
